Bill Gates quiere rociar millones de toneladas de polvo en la estratósfera para detener el calentamiento global. El plan suena como ciencia ficción, pero podría ser un hecho dentro de una década.

Todos los días, más de 800 aviones gigantes levantarían millones de toneladas de polvo de tiza a una altura de 12 millas sobre la superficie de la Tierra. El proyecto de geoingenieria está siendo financiado por el multimillonario y fundador de Microsoft, Bill Gates, y pionero de científicos de la Universidad de Harvard. Esta prueba inicial de $ 3 millones, conocida como Experimento de perturbación controlada estratosférica (SCoPEx).

Usaría un globo científico a gran altitud para levantar alrededor de 2 kg de polvo de carbonato de calcio, casi igual al tamaño de una bolsa de harina, a 12 millas por encima del desierto de Nuevo México.
